In today’s interconnected global economy, tariffs play an important role in shaping the movement of goods across borders. Whether you’re an importer, a business owner, or a consumer, tariffs can significantly impact product pricing, supply chains, and overall business operations.
Governments often use tariffs to protect domestic industries or address trade practices they consider unfair. However, these policies can also introduce complexity and uncertainty for companies operating internationally.
This post serves as a living update on tariffs affecting Particle products. We will continue to update this page as new policies are introduced or existing tariffs change.
Background: Section 301 tariffs
Many Particle products fall under Section 301 tariffs, which were introduced as part of the United States’ response to China’s trade practices.
Section 301 tariffs on certain Chinese imports first took effect in 2020 as part of the Phase One trade agreement between the United States and China. These tariffs added additional duties to specific product categories imported from China.
Over time, exemptions and tariff rates have been updated or allowed to expire.
One of the most impactful changes occurred on May 31, 2024, when a 7.5% tariff exemption expired, increasing the cost of importing many Particle products.
Tariff Updates
-
February 1, 2025 – New Tariffs Announced
On February 1, 2025, new Executive Orders introduced an additional 10% tariff on imports from China and Hong Kong, effective 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on February 4, 2025.
This tariff applies broadly to imports and is added on top of existing duties, including Standard Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) duties and Section 301 tariffs.
-
March 4, 2025 – Additional Tariff Increase
As of March 4, 2025, the United States implemented an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from China, increasing the newly imposed tariff rate from 10% to 20% on covered imports.
These tariffs stack with existing Section 301 tariffs, meaning products already subject to Section 301 duties are now subject to both the Section 301 tariff and the additional 20% tariff. For many Particle products, this results in a total tariff rate of approximately 27.5%.
-
February 24, 2026 – U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on IEEPA Tariffs
POTUS issued an update to Executive Order ending Reciprocal and Fentanyl tariffs; all other section 301 and 232 tariffs would remain in effect. This reduced the tariff rate for Particle’s development boards to 17.5% and to 40% for antennas and accessories.

Frequently asked questions
I have a tax-exempt document, why am I being charged tariffs?
Tax exemptions are state tax documents that do not apply to federal tariff charges.
What if I am shipping internationally, not to the United States?
Only shipments into the United States are subject to Section 301 tariffs. One way to mitigate these tariff fees is to ship your components directly to your manufacturer (if outside of the U.S.).
Where are my goods shipped from?
Most of our shipments will originate from our Hong Kong facility. Please refer to your master service agreement for specific shipping details, if applicable.
