What is Device OS 4?

Device OS 4 is a continuation of our commitment to ensure consistent and reliable functionality, critical security updates, and bug fixes via Particle’s Long Term Support (LTS) firmware. LTS users migrating from Device OS 2 to Device OS 4 will have access to the following new functionality under Particle’s Long Term Support commitments:

  • Max function and variable payload sizes have increased from a maximum of 622 bytes to 1024 bytes (access GitHub link here)
  • Max user application binary size has doubled from 128KB to 256KB (access GitHub link here)
  • Resumable over-the-air updates
  • LTS firmware support for T SoM and Asset Tracker devices

For the best user experience, we recommend migrating with Particle Workbench. Any questions? Please contact our support team!
